Tips for Inclusion
Here’s a helpful summary video from the Centre for Autism and Theology at Aberdeen.
Their five top tips are:
- Accept autistic people as they are, including e.g. fidgeting
- Help them make friends – autism is often a very lonely place to be
- Enable them to take part – e.g. in doing the Bible reading
- Be aware that they may have different sensory experiences
- Try to use logical thinking and stick to what you’ve said
Understand that the church is not complete without autistic people there.
